James Blundell Joins NHVR to Promote Road Safety

Australian country music star, James Blundell, has recently collaborated with the NHVR for its We All Need Space road safety campaign. With over 35 years of touring experience, Blundell has traveled countless kilometers across the country and has witnessed numerous close calls on the road, both in major cities and remote areas.

Blundell, who also manages a hemp farm in Queensland's south-west, is urging drivers to exercise caution and be more considerate when sharing the road with heavy vehicles. Regardless of whether one is a truck driver, a car driver, or a touring artist like himself, Blundell emphasizes the importance of reaching our destinations safely by showing mutual respect on the road.

In a creative twist on his popular hit song, "Way Out West," Blundell has crafted new lyrics that highlight the significance of giving trucks the space they need, ensuring the safety of all drivers. As an Australian country classic, "Way Out West" holds a special place in Blundell's heart, and he is proud to lend his talents to deliver such a crucial message to motorists.

When Blundell is not on tour or in the recording studio, he can be found working on his family farm in Stanthorpe, where he grew up. Having obtained his Heavy Rigid license at the age of 19, Blundell's experience with trucks and heavy machinery brings him a deep connection to this campaign.

Blundell shares, "Being out west in regional Queensland, I've seen countless road trains on the roads. Unfortunately, when drivers are unaware of their surroundings or lack knowledge on sharing the road, accidents can have devastating consequences. It is essential to remain composed and give truck drivers the space they need."

According to NHVR Executive Director Michelle Tayler, fatal crashes involving heavy vehicles are alarmingly higher in regional areas compared to metropolitan areas. This year alone, there have been 53 fatal crashes involving heavy vehicles in regional areas, compared to 20 in metropolitan areas. These statistics indicate the urgent need to spread the message across the entire country to save lives on our roads.

Tayler emphasizes the critical nature of giving trucks sufficient space, especially on long rural roads. The NHVR is continuously exploring innovative approaches to educate drivers, and they are thrilled to welcome James Blundell to their campaign.

In conclusion, Blundell's partnership with the NHVR demonstrates a powerful collaboration between the music industry and road safety initiatives. By utilizing his musical talents and personal experiences, Blundell aims to raise awareness about the importance of road safety and the need to create a safer environment for all drivers.
