A well known institute of vocational education known as Melbourne Polytechnic, has taken Victorian Apiarists by storm. Introducing a tailored Maxi-CUBE Classic Dry Freight trailer doubling as a mobile classroom that this institute hopes to enable beekeeping enthusiasts to become jack of beekeeping and honey extraction in a practical, hands-on environment.
Inviting aspiring beekeepers to learn in an innovative environment right in the back of a trailer! James Farmer, a leader in Melbourne Polytechnic facilities and assets team constructed and executed the concept of this especially bee-tastic mobile classroom. With a regional gap in beekeeping education across the region being noticed Australia’s leader in transport equipment solutions, MaxiTRANS brought to life the idea of beekeeping from anywhere. Partnering to create a self-sufficient, off the grid trailer that has been instituted as a flexible and accessible location for vocational education, being able to travel throughout the state whilst also setting new standards for immersive education settings.
Renowned for expert trailer design and manufacturing MaxiTRANS, was able to build a customised Maxi-CUBE dry-freight trailer that not only abides by road safety and transport guidelines but also as a mobile functional classroom. With a fibreglass slip-free zircon floor, a side-access food and underbody storage, further equipped with an interior fit for any beekeeper, thanks to partnerships with a local fit out company. Powered by a 550 hp Cat engine the Maxi-CUBE Trailer can move across diverse terrain keeping its interior fitted work benches, sinks, nine solar panels on the roof along with a water storage unit smoothly alongside a Western Star prime mover.
Upon completion in April 2023 this self-sufficient beekeeping classroom made its mark addressing not only the regional gap in beekeeping education but also introducing the concept of a mobile, off-grid classroom that has the potential to revolutionise how vocational courses are taught, not only in Victoria but across the country and even globally. Since its completion in April 2023, Melbourne Polytechnic's mobile beekeeping classroom has made a significant impact. In August, the classroom hit the road for its inaugural beekeeping course, receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback. This success demonstrates the potential of this innovative educational initiative and showcases its scalability for other vocational courses. Just over a year since its introduction this project has exemplified the endless possibilities presented by MaxiTRANS range of limitless drivable projects.
